Privacy policy

This privacy policy explains which personal data we process when you visit or use this website. Personal data is any information that can be linked to you as a person, such as your name, your email address or your device’s IP address.

You can use this website without telling us your name or anything else about yourself.

Each section explains what data we process and why, on what legal basis, whether anyone else receives it and when we delete it. Sections on specific features, such as contacting us, only concern you if you use that feature.

We have written this policy so that you can understand it without any legal background. It refers to two laws. The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) governs when personal data may be processed and what rights you have. The German Telecommunications and Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG) governs when a website may store information on your device or read it from there, for example cookies.

Who is responsible for your data

The controller responsible for data processing on this website is:

Excellence Global Logistics GmbH
An den Weiden 118
65428 Rüsselsheim
Germany

Email: operations@egl-world.com

Hosting

This website is hosted on the servers of a hosting provider based in Germany.

When you open a page, your browser automatically sends technical information to the server, including your IP address, the address of the page, the date and time, and details of your browser and operating system. The server needs this information to deliver the page. The host also keeps it for a while to fix faults and fend off attacks, and deletes it as soon as it is no longer needed for these purposes.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a website that is secure and reliably available (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Delivery via a content delivery network

Images, fonts, scripts and style sheets of this website are delivered by KeyCDN, a service provided by proinity LLC (Switzerland). Your browser fetches these files directly from KeyCDN. KeyCDN receives your IP address and technical details about your browser.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a website that loads quickly and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Switzerland is not part of the EU, but the European Commission has decided that data is adequately protected there (adequacy decision, Art. 45 GDPR). More on data protection at KeyCDN: https://www.keycdn.com/privacy

Encrypted transmission

This website transmits all data in encrypted form (HTTPS). This protects everything sent between your browser and our server from being read on the way.

Legal bases and how long we keep data

We only process personal data where the GDPR allows it. Each section states which of the following legal bases we rely on:

  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): We only process the data if you have agreed, and only for the purpose you agreed to. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): We need the data to perform a contract with you or to deal with your enquiry before a contract is concluded.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR): A law requires us to process the data, for example to keep it.
  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): We have a legitimate interest in the processing. The relevant section states what that interest is.

For cookies and anything else that is stored on your device or read from it, Section 25 TDDDG applies in addition to the GDPR: we need your consent for this, unless it is strictly necessary to provide a service you have explicitly asked to use.

We delete your data as soon as we no longer need it for its purpose; the individual sections say how long that is. We only keep data for longer if the law requires it. This mainly concerns business letters and accounting records, which commercial and tax law require us to keep for six to ten years (Section 257 HGB, Section 147 AO).

Cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. They let the website remember something the next time you open a page, such as the language you chose.

The following sections explain which cookies this website uses and why.

Strictly necessary cookies

Without your consent, this website only stores on your device what it strictly needs in order to work.

We do not need your consent for this, because without these cookies the website would not work the way you open and use it (Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). Where personal data is involved, the legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing these functions to you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These cookies only serve this website; we do not pass them on to anyone else.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. The website may then no longer work properly.

Consent to services

We only use some of the services on this website if you agree. Until you agree, these services do not load. The following sections explain which services these are.

The legal basis for these services is your consent (Section 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can change your choices and withdraw your consent at any time, using the “Privacy & Cookie Settings” link at the bottom of every page.

So that we do not have to ask you again every time you open a page, we store in a cookie on your device which services you have allowed and which you have declined. We do not need consent for this, because it is the only way we can respect your choice (Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG).

Tracking

Tracking means that a website analyses how visitors use it, for example which pages they open and how long they stay.

This website does not use any statistics, analytics or advertising services and does not analyse how you use it.

Your rights

The GDPR gives you rights that let you have a say in what happens to your data. To exercise any of them, email us at operations@egl-world.com; no particular form is required.

  • Access (Art. 15 GDPR): You can ask whether we hold any data about you. If we do, we will tell you what it is and, if you wish, send you a copy.
  • Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): If data about you is wrong or incomplete, you can ask us to correct it.
  • Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): You can ask us to delete your data, for example if we no longer need it or you have withdrawn your consent. If the law requires us to keep data, we delete it once that period has ended.
  • Restriction (Art. 18 GDPR): You can ask us to keep your data for a while without using it for anything else. This may apply, for example, if you doubt that the data is correct: until that has been cleared up, the data stays untouched.
  • Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): If we process data that you gave us yourself on the basis of your consent or a contract, you can get it in a common file format, for example to pass it on to another provider. If you wish, we will send it directly to them where this is technically possible.

Withdrawing consent (Art. 7(3) GDPR): You can withdraw your consent at any time. You can change your choices in the cookie banner using the “Privacy & Cookie Settings” link at the bottom of every page; to withdraw any other consent, send a message to operations@egl-world.com. Withdrawal only applies to the future: any processing carried out before you withdrew your consent remains lawful.

Objection (Art. 21 GDPR): If we process your data on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you can object to this at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. We will then stop processing the data, unless we have compelling grounds that outweigh your interests, or we need the data to enforce or defend legal claims. Here, too, a message to operations@egl-world.com is all it takes.

Complaint (Art. 77 GDPR): If you believe that we are processing your data unlawfully, you can complain to a data protection supervisory authority of your choice, for example in the place where you live or work.

Contact and enquiries

If you write to us or call us, we use the information you give us to deal with your enquiry and reply to you. Using the forms on this website, you can send us a message, request a quote, for example for freight costs, express transport or Aircraft on Ground services, or send us your company details as a new customer.

If your enquiry is about an order or contract with us, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. For all other enquiries, the processing is based on our legitimate interest in handling and answering enquiries reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Emails to us are stored on the servers of an email service provider in Germany. We delete your enquiry once your matter has been dealt with. If it leads to an order or counts as a business letter, we keep it for as long as commercial and tax law require (see “Legal bases and how long we keep data”).

Required fields in the forms are marked; a form cannot be sent without them. Everything else is optional. The forms send your details to us by email and also store them in this website’s database. We delete them there once your matter has been dealt with.

Customer satisfaction survey

With the survey on this website, we ask our customers to rate their experience of working with us. We use the results to improve our services and for our quality management under ISO 9001. Taking part is voluntary. The only required field is your name; the survey cannot be sent without it. Everything else is optional.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in finding out how satisfied our customers are and improving our services (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

The survey sends your answers to us by email and also stores them in this website’s database. We delete them as soon as we no longer need them for the evaluation and for our quality management.

Videos from YouTube

This website embeds videos from YouTube, a service provided by Google Ireland Limited (Ireland). The videos only load once you have allowed YouTube (see “Consent to services”). Until then, your browser does not connect to YouTube.

As soon as the videos load, your browser connects to Google’s servers. Google receives your IP address, technical details about your browser and device, and the address of the page the video is on. If you are logged in to YouTube or Google, Google can link the visit to your account; to avoid this, log out first.

We use YouTube’s “privacy-enhanced mode”. Even in this mode, YouTube stores information on your device as soon as the videos load.

Whatever YouTube stores on your device stays there for up to two years unless you delete it earlier. Google decides for itself how it uses the data further; we have no influence on this. Google also transfers data to Google LLC in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which is covered by an adequacy decision of the European Commission (Art. 45 GDPR).

The legal basis is your consent (Section 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time, using the “Privacy & Cookie Settings” link at the bottom of every page. More on data protection at Google: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en

Protection against attacks

To protect this website against attacks, we use a security plugin that runs on our server. For example, it detects repeated failed login attempts and blocks the IP address they come from for a certain time. It records such incidents with the IP address and the time, and for login attempts also the username entered.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in protecting the website and our visitors’ data against attacks and misuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). This information is deleted automatically as soon as it is no longer needed for this purpose.

The plugin also uses a blocklist kept by Liquid Web, LLC (USA) of IP addresses that attacks have come from, and blocks the addresses on this list. If a login on this website fails, the plugin reports the IP address to Liquid Web, together with the time, the address of this website and details of the browser. If you do not log in to this website, these reports do not affect you.

Here, too, the legal basis is our legitimate interest in fending off attacks before they reach this website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Liquid Web is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which is covered by an adequacy decision of the European Commission (Art. 45 GDPR).

Applications

If you apply for a job with us, we use your details and documents to process your application. This includes your contact details, your CV, your certificates and references, and anything else you send us. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, because your application is the first step towards a possible employment contract.

If we hire you, we transfer the data to your personnel file. If we turn you down, we delete your documents as soon as no more claims can be made in connection with the rejection. Until then, we keep them because we have a legitimate interest in defending ourselves against possible claims relating to the rejection, for example under the German General Equal Treatment Act (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
